Aucho, headed into his third season at the Jangwani-based giants, played a significant role in luring compatriot Gift Fred to Tanzania, Pulse Sports can reveal.
The saying ‘a candle loses nothing by lighting the other’ explains Khalid Aucho's exact role in the transfer of Gift Fred to Young Africans.
Aucho, headed into his third season at the Jangwani-based giants, played a significant role in luring compatriot Gift Fred to Tanzania, Pulse Sports can reveal.
It all started in June 2023 as the Cranes prepared to face Algeria in an AFCON qualifier after SC Villa's unexpected title chase had ended in pain as they lost 1-0 to URA FC on the season's final day, allowing Vipers to claim the title.
Gift Fred was summoned for international duty and featured in the sides 1-0 friendly defeat against DR. Congo
"President Saidi contacted me directly (after the DR. Congo game) and inquired about him (Gift),” Aucho told Pulse Sports.
“I gave him a detailed report and told him that Gift was a great player who had all the attributes at play at Young Africans.”
"Good enough Saidi had watched the game, and Gift played well, so I briefed Gift about the development, and that's how everything went on until Tuesday when he was unveiled."
Aucho added: "I am thrilled to have Gift at the club, I just wish him all the best, and I'll do everything to help him settle in well."
The 24-year-old Cranes defender becomes Young Africans' second signing ahead of the new season after Nickson Kibabage, who joined from Singida Fountain Gate FC.
Young Africans under a new head coach in Argentine Angel Miguel Gamondi, are targeting to make a mark in the CAF Champions League.
The side had an exciting CAF Confederation Cup run last season when they reached their maiden final, losing to USM Alger on the away goals rule.
