The Premier League giants wanted the forward as an attacking option for the upcoming campaign.

Manchester United and Chelsea were keen to sign Brazilian forward Willian when he almost entered the Bosman pool.

The former Arsenal forward briefly left Fulham before he changed his mind and signed a new deal with the club, and at that point, United and Chelsea were monitoring the situation.

After an exemplary run with Chelsea over seven seasons, the Brazilian signed for Arsenal, but his career took a dip before he went back home and signed for Corinthians.

He made a surprise return to the Premier League when he signed for Fulham after yet another struggle with the Brazilian outfit.

Fulham finished 10th, and Marco Silva indicated that he was happy to have the Premier League winner in his ranks despite the club and the player not agreeing on new terms for another deal.

The 34-year-old was left as a free agent, briefly, though at this time other clubs monitored him with the intention of offering him a contract.

Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace were the other clubs monitoring the situation from the sidelines, and the Eagles saw in him as a replacement for Wilfried Zaha.

United, Chelsea, Palace, and Forest saw him as an option for the next season, but Willian Bosman's situation was brief before he signed a new deal with the London club.

Had he remained a free agent, Chelsea would have had an upper hand in the race given that he had settled around the club.
