Manchester United kept tabs on Victor Osimhen, but turned down the chance to sign him,

Victor Osimhen is one of the best centre-forwards in the market, and with the dearth of quality strikers in modern football, he has been looked at by nearly all top clubs in search of a player in the position.

Manchester United were one such club who had interest in the Galatasaray striker, but they did not table an official bid. A recent report details why they failed to genuinely make a move for the Nigerian forward.

Why Man United did not sign Osimhen

According to ESPN’s sources, the Red Devils scouted Osimhen during the 2022/23 season, in which he won the Cappocannoiere and led the Partenopei to a historic Scudetto title.

The Nigerian striker was courted by a number of clubs in the aftermath of that season, but he eventually put pen to a new deal with Napoli.

While Manchester United kept tabs on him, they were not willing to table an offer, as they did not think the level of the Serie A was high.

According to the report, the Red Devils assessed Romelu Lukaku’s dominance in the Italian top flight in a previous campaign as evidence of the league's weaker quality compared to the Premier League. Also, they were wary of the former Lillie's striker’s ability to hold up play.

After ruling out the signing of Osimhen based on the league he played in, Manchester United went on to spend a combined £109 million on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee from the Serie A.
