A heated debate on the welfare of match officials at the biggest stage in Uganda's club football, the Uganda Premier League, continues to take center stage.
A revelation from former referee George Nkurunziza, who was banned for alleged match-fixing, about earning Shs100,000 (about 28 dollars) on a given match-day, has fuelled even more opinions on the pressing matter.
It has since been revealed that the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) spends Shs120,000 (USD 33) as an allowance for each match official on a given match day.
In response to some of the vast reactions on the issue, FUFA Head of Communications Ahmed Hussein went ahead to disclose how that sum is paid to five to six match officials each per game on a given game day.
"FUFA spends on 5-6 officials per match with transportation, accommodation, and allowance catered for depending on the location of the match venue," he said on X.

Given the number of match officials allocated for a given game, FUFA spends between Shs4,800,000 and 5,760,000 on allowances (wages) for a given match day.
Hussein further revealed that FUFA spends an additional Six million shillings on just transport and accommodation per game day.
"A match day takes about 6m on transport and accommodation only. This doesn't include the stipulated allowances for each match official. Each match uses between 5-6 officials."
Given the totality of expenses, FUFA spends in the region of Shs10,800,000 to 11,760,000 for a round of eight UPL matches.
With the topflight a make of 30 rounds, FUFA spends between Shs324,000,000 to 352,800,000 a season on match officials.
