More details have emerged from the bizarre and diabolical game between Katsina United and Remo Stars in the NPFL.

CAF Champions League-chasing Remo Stars were denied a point in Katsina in controversial circumstances during the game against Katsina United in the NPfL on Sunday.

Home team Katsina United scored a bizarre winner in the 34th minute of stoppage time to take all three points.

Remo Stars, who was playing away, found itself down by 2-0 at half time in the week 35 encounter.

Former Enyimba man, Tosin Omoyele netted both goals to put the host in the driver's seat heading into the break.

An excellent goal ten minutes into the second half from Super Eagles forward Alimi Sikiru reduced the deficit for Remo Stars.

And two minutes into added time, Remo Stars thought they had done enough to take a point back home to Ikenne when Alhamean Adegbite netted a second goal to level the scores.

However, after a long delay by the officials to ascertain if Adegbite's goal was legitimate, it was allowed to stay.

Then, the drama started as fans attacked the Remo Stars media team recording the game, taking their camera, with match officials forced to play on until the home side scored the winner.

And in the 34th minute of added time, United finally found the winner through Emmanuel Matthew to seal the controversial victory.

Now, more details have emerged as eyewitness, who spoke to Pulse Sports Nigeria in anonymity, detailed how the visitors escaped mob action in Katsina.

"When they (Remo Stars) equalised, both the full time and added time were up already," he stated.

"The fans and officials encroached the pitch and it was getting messy. Remo Stars' camera was taking, shutting down the live stream. After so many back and forth, Katsina decided to restart the game while both the match commissioner and match officials promised them they would score."

How match officials saved a bloody situation

"They (match officials) just had to manufacture the goal so everyone could leave unhurt, if not, it would have been bloody."

Katsina United scored the winner in the 34th minute of added time.

"The officials had a series of discussions with the Katsina United people, Remo wasn’t interested in the game anymore because of safety. Honestly, they would have been mobbed if they (Katsina) didn’t score."

"A Few of katsina players had to protect players in the dressing room, they also left in their own team bus back to the hotel before leaving Katsina immediately. This is really bad."

Despite the result, Remo Stars remain in the hunt for a spot in the continent. They sit third on the table with 53 points, while Katsina moved two points clear of relegation waters.

There are three matches left in the 2021-22 season in the NPFL, with Rivers United already declared champions.
