Sofapaka midfielder Humphrey Mieno is reportedly one of the players on the radar of AFC Leopards as Ingwe look for reinforcements in the January transfer window

Could veteran midfielder Humphrey Mieno be about to return to another of his former clubs?

That is the question among Kenyan football fans following reports that AFC Leopards are exploring the possibilities of snapping him up.

Mieno made a sensational return to Sofapaka after the conclusion of his contract with Tusker FC last season and has been one of the bright spots in what has been a difficult campaign so far for Batoto ba Mungu.

With the January transfer window opening at the start of the year, Mieno is now being linked to Leopards who are in the market for a creative midfielder after also struggling to get going in the 2023-24 campaign.

“It is a possibility but no talks have taken place yet,” a source from AFC Leopards told Pulse Sports. “There have been discussions about his transfer in various forums for our club but the coach has not requested for him yet. He watched him when we played Sofapaka but did not express an interest.”

“But we are looking for a No10. A creative midfielder and I think that is why Mieno’s name is being mentioned,” added the source, who requested anonymity.

Leopards are expected to be busy again in the mid-season transfer market as they seek reinforcements with a creative midfielder and a striker high on their list of priorities.

Ingwe have struggled to create chances this season with even the few they managed going to waste and it is something coach Tomas Trucha is seeking to address.

Whether 33-year-old Mieno is the solution remains to be seen but the player has vast experience that Leopards could benefit from.

Trucha got to see what Mieno is capable of when he scored a stunning goal via a bicycle kick to secure a 1-1 draw for Sofapaka when the two teams met in November in a match Leopards were close to winning.

The former Mahakama, KCB and Gor Mahia midfielder played for Leopards between 2014 and 2015 before leaving for his first stint with Tusker after lasting seven months at the den.
