Klop hijacked me - Mane

The Senegalese forward, who achieved legendary status at Anfield, admitted he was seriously considering a move to Old Trafford before Klopp's intervention.

"I was really, really close [to a move to Man Utd] because I even met up with them. So I was coming, I was there, and I spoke with the boss who was there before [Louis van Gaal]. They made an offer, but in the same week, Klopp called me," Mane stated.

He continued, "I think it’s the right club. The right coach for you, and I think it’s better that you go to Liverpool’. For me, I think it was the right time as well. I said, ‘I am going to Liverpool’."

Reflecting on his time at Anfield, Mane expressed his gratitude for the experience.

"Obviously, it is strange, really, really strange – to no longer be a Liverpool player after six years spent at Anfield.

"But of course, I had a great time, an unbelievable time, and since my first day, I really, really enjoyed training and playing at Anfield, especially in front of these amazing supporters," he told Liverpool's club website in 2022.

Sadio Mane achieves legend status at Liverpool

Sadio Mane's impact at Liverpool FC was undeniable. Signed from Southampton in 2016 for a then-record fee for an African player (£34 million), he quickly became a key figure in Jurgen Klopp's squad.

He contributed significantly to back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals, culminating in a triumphant victory in 2019.

That season, Mane shared the Premier League Golden Boot, showcasing his exceptional goal-scoring prowess. His crowning achievement arrived in 2020 when he helped Liverpool end their 30-year wait for a league title.

He finished fourth and second in the Ballon d'Or in 2019 and 2022, respectively, and achieved a fifth-place finish in The Best FIFA Men's Player award in 2019.
