'I am not going to sit here and play once a month’ - Harry Maguire threatens to quit Man Utd

Harry Maguire, who is expected to start for England when they face Australia on Friday and Italy on Tuesday, said he and the club need to chat about his limited playing time.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has warned that he is not likely to remain at the Old Trafford club if he does not get enough playing time.

Harry Maguire came close to leaving Manchester United in the summer with West Ham United interested in his services, but the deal collapsed.

The former skipper has endured limited playing time and has also lost the captain’s handband in the process.

Furthermore, Harry Maguire has been a victim of social media trolls from his club’s supporters and rival fans during matches. On one occasion, his mother came to his rescue- hitting out at those trolling her son.

Harry Maguire on possible move away from Man Utd

Harry Maguire, who is expected to start for England when they face Australia on Friday and Italy on Tuesday, said there is a need for him and the club to chat about his limited playing time.

“I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month. If it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things,” Maguire said, as quoted by the DailyMail.

While acknowledging that it’s not his duty to decide who plays or not, Harry Maguire is of the opinion that he’s done enough to command a starting position in Man United’s backline.

“It's not my decision whether I start the next game for United or not. In a couple of weeks, I'll go back and find out.”

“I have belief in my ability and it's been tough. I want to play games and feel important to the club. At the moment, I haven't been playing anywhere near as much as I would like. That is the bottom line.”

Harry Maguire defends his record at Man Utd

Since Ten Hag stripped Harry Maguire of the captaincy, the Englishman has seen his playing time limited, and he is not happy with it at all.

Harry Maguire insists that his record under Ten Hag is quite impressive and he deserves to be in the starting line-up.

“My record under this manager speaks for itself. My win percentage when I've played is ridiculously high. If you look back on my last 15 to 20 starts for club and country, I'm really happy with my performances.”

“At the moment I am focused on two big games for England and then on fighting to try and win my place back at Manchester United and help the team climb the league.”

Harry Maguire’s impressive stats for Club and Country

Maguire has a win percentage of 88.9 in matches he has started for club and country (P18 W16 D1 L1), since the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Manchester United's 3-0 Europa League quarter-final second-leg defeat at Sevilla is the only blemish for Maguire when starting a match this calendar year.

For all of these records, Maguire has continued to be relegated in United’s backline, but England manager Gareth Southgate has kept faith in the 30-year-old defender.
