'I am not here for fun' - Finidi George reacts after unveiling as Rivers United coach

Finidi resigned as Super Eagles coach amidst the team's underwhelming performance in their recent World Cup qualifiers, where they managed only a single point from two matches against Benin and South Africa.

Following the resignation of coach Finidi George as Super Eagles coach, Rivers United Football Club has unveiled Finidi George as their new head coach.

The 53-year-old former Super Eagles player signed a two-year contract with the Pride of Rivers.

Finidi is eager to return to club management after a successful stint with Enyimba FC.

He led the People's Elephant to the Nigeria Premier Football League title in his debut season as coach but left the club before the end of the 2023/2024 season for the Super Eagles assignment.

'I am not here for fun' - Finidi blows hot

The former Ajax winger has revealed that he joined Port Harcourt to give back to the club as he began his journey with Sharks of Port Harcourt.

He added that he is ready for the task and take Rivers United to promise land.

He said, "I am very happy to be here because i started my football career with Sharks FC, i am back as coach now.

"This is an opportunity for me to give back to the club. i have take this challenge and i am not here for fun."

Finidi replaces Evans Ogenyi, who served as interim manager following the departure of long-time coach Stanley Eguma.

In 2016, Dolphins and Sharks was officially merged and the two teams collectively became known as Rivers United F.C.
