The Nigerian forward is keen to match up to the standards of Manchester City's Erling Haaland
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has shared the nature of his relationship with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland as the pair prepare to do battle in the Premier League thanks to the Napoli striker’s imminent move to Chelsea.
Osimhen close to Chelsea move
As part of the transaction, Romelu Lukaku and possibly Cesare Casadei are expected to join the Serie A side.
A possible move to Chelsea already has fans anticipating a thrilling rivalry between Osimhen and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who is the current favourite for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Osimhen, however, is not daunted by the challenge, as he shares a deep respect for Haaland, with whom he already has a connection and has exchanged jerseys through ex-Napoli teammate Leo Ostigard.
Osimhen’s confident of going toe-to-toe with Haaland
Despite Haaland's dominance in the Premier League since his arrival in 2022, Osimhen is confident in his own abilities.
The 24-year-old believes he has what it takes to compete at the highest level and is motivated by the comparisons to Haaland.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, Osimhen said, “I’ve followed Haaland for a while, and he seems to score two, three, four goals every weekend. He’s one of the best of his generation, and being compared to him inspires me to do more.”
Osimhen believes that he has the quality to replicate Haaland’s form, adding, “I can score four goals in a game, provide more assists, and do many more things.
“I have the quality to execute them. I need to work even harder, and at the end of my career, I hope to look back and say yes, I did some wonderful things.”
Osimhen has already become one of the biggest stars in the world after scoring 26 goals in the 2022/23 season to help Napoli win their first Scudetto in 33 years, and the Nigerian will be hoping to replicate this success with Chelsea if he joins them this summer.
