Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare expresses delight at joining KRC Genk
Tolu Arokodare has spoken about his move to Belgian club KRC Genk and expressed his delight about the transfer.
The Nigerian striker was signed by Genk on transfer deadline day for a fee in the region of €5 million to replace his compatriot Paul Onuachu who was sold to Southampton.
The Belgian giants sold their talismanic top scorer Onuachu to Southampton and had very little time to fill the gap so they went for a like-for-like replacement in Arokodare.
Tolu Arokodare delighted to join KRC Genk
“I am very happy to be in Genk. At this point in my career, I can’t imagine a better club,” he remarked while addressing the club's official website.
The 22-year-old has been playing in France with Ligue 2 club Amiens where he has been on loan since 2021 from Latvian club Valmiera.
Arokodare scored 21 goals in 63 games across two seasons for Amiens having netted 22 times in 32 games for Valmiera FC.
The young Nigerian has an eye for goal which is why Genk splashed the cash on him but replacing Onuachu is a difficult task which he alludes to in his first interview at the club.
“Together with the team, I hope to continue the good results of the first half of the season and to win prizes. Paul leaves big shoes to fill. But I am determined to give 100% for this great club,” Arokodare said.
Onuachu leaves Genk as the club's second all-time top scorer with 85 goals in 134 appearances for the Smurfs, that is the standard Arokodare is being held to.
