A Manchester United star has broken his silence on the exit of Erik Ten Hag who signed him in the summer.

Manchester United’s new defender, Matthijs De Ligt, has addressed the recent sacking of Erik Ten Hag, the manager who signed him during the summer transfer window.

In an honest statement, De Ligt emphasised that his move to the Premier League was not solely for Ten Hag, despite their strong professional relationship.

"Yes, but Man United is still one of the biggest clubs in the world. I just have to do my own thing and play well myself," he said per a post by Fabrizio Romano, highlighting his commitment to the club and his performance.

De Ligt's comments come in light of Ten Hag's dismissal following a series of disappointing results for the team, culminating in a controversial 2-1 defeat to West Ham.

The decision to part ways with Ten Hag has been met with mixed reactions among players and fans alike.

Reflecting on the situation, De Ligt admitted it has been "quite difficult" to cope with the change. He also acknowledged his admiration for Ten Hag as both a coach and a person.

The Dutch defender also expressed his determination to focus on his contributions to the team moving forward.

"I feel very fit now and things are going well," he stated, reinforcing his readiness to take on challenges as Manchester United navigates this transitional period under new management.

De Ligt's arrival at Manchester United was highly anticipated after a successful stint at Bayern Munich, where he developed into one of Europe's top defenders.

His ability to adapt quickly was crucial as the team adjusted to new tactics under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has since departed for new boss Ruben Amorim.

With Manchester United looking to regain their footing in the Premier League under Amorim, De Ligt remains focused on delivering strong performances while honouring his connection with Ten Hag and the impact he had on his career.
