'Xavi lied to me' — Ex-Barcelona star cries out after disappointing spell at Camp Nou
Several players have struggled to produce their best football under the bright Camp Nou lights but one star has come out to reveal his issues were caused by former Barcelona boss Xavi.
Roque's troubled six months
Initially signed in the summer of 2023, with the club planning to incorporate him in the 2024/25 season's preseason, Roque was brought in six months ahead of schedule as the club struggled with injuries and needed to fill up the deficiencies in their squad.
However, the former Athletico Paranaense guy failed to break into the team, only managing to amass two league starts.
The club were prepared to cut their losses and sell him last summer after receiving an acceptable offer from Saudi Arabia; however, Roque wanted to continue in Spain and prioritised a loan move to Real Betis.
What Roque said
The 21-year-old is enjoying life in Andalusia and in a recent interview, he expressed his desire to continue at the club past his current loan deal.
Roque has previously expressed Xavi Hernandez's failure to communicate with him in his role as the Barcelona manager last season, and in a recent press appearance, he detailed how he was not happy during his stint at the club.
"My family and I went through very difficult times, and now they smile with me. I didn't smile for 6 or 7 months,” he told reporters, per Fabrizio Romano.
"I'm very happy at Betis! I'm smiling again here. I live very well and I would like to keep on playing here.”
