The former Super Eagles boss and his team currently lead the league by two points after 17 matches, but Finidi has insisted that he is not getting carried away by the title race.

The 53-year-old appeared to have re-echoed the same sentiments as Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who cheekily said he doesn't look at the table and feigned ignorance of any title race despite Enzo Maresca's team being two points behind leaders Liverpool.

Rivers united defeat Kwara United

2022 NPFL champions Rivers United reclaimed top spot on Sunday following a 2-1 victory over Kwara United in Port Harcourt. This win, coupled with their closest rivals, Remo Stars, drawing 1-1 against Ikorodu City, propelled Finidi's team back to the summit.

Finidi George and his Rivers United have dropped to second on the table.

Rivers United’s comeback victory against Kwara United was secured by two quick goals in the second half from Timothy Zechariah and David Benjamin, overturning a deficit.

The difference is not much - Finidi George on NPFL title race

However, Finidi remains cautious, emphasizing the close nature of the league.

“I don’t look at the league table because the difference is not much, this week you’re on top and if you fail to win, you slip,” Finidi stated after the match.

The coach also praised his players for their resilience and determination in securing a comeback win against Kwara United.

“It’s been a long time since we scored two goals. We came back from a goal down to this one, that’s a beautiful spirit from the players. I told them before kick-off that it was going to be a tough game. We did concede and fought back. Sometimes it is not easy to do but I give the players the kudos," he added.

Rivers United will aim to extend their lead at the top of the NPFL table when they travel to Lafia to face Nasarawa United on Saturday.
