I don't think so — Spanish coach vows to brave German law and play Yamal

Spain's coach Luis De La Fuente addressed Germany's curfew on athletes as young as Lamine Yamal.

Spanish national team coach Luis De La Fuente has rubbished suggestions that he would take off Lamine Yamal before 11 pm should their knockout game against Georgia go into extra time.

What happened

Yamal, 16, has been one of Spain's standout players in the European Championships so far. However, a recent report from BILD placed limitations on his availability for the Seleccion.

Per the report, minors are not allowed to work past 8 pm in Germany. There is a provision for athletes; however, that too is capped at 11 p.m.

That would mean that should Yamal play beyond the stated time, which becomes possible if the game enters extra time, he would be breaching German law. The Spanish coach, however, does not care, as he stated he will play the youngster regardless of the law's limits.

"We talk to him daily,” De La Fuente said. "He shows a maturity inappropriate for his age, but he is in developing both as a footballer and as a person. We are all responsible in that process. We are going to do our job and let him play. Nothing more.

"I don't know the German legislation on whether Lamine has to be removed at 11 p.m.... We don't think so."
