The Barcelona goalkeeper could miss the entire LaLiga season after suffering a knee injury
Barcelona’s commanding 5-1 victory over Villarreal was overshadowed by a devastating blow to their goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who sustained a knee injury that could sideline him for up to eight months.
The German goalkeeper has now revealed his thoughts following the horrific injury, choosing to remain positive.
Ter Stegen’s message of gratitude
For the first time since his injury, Ter Stegen has spoken publicly, sharing a heartfelt message with fans on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Ter Stegen remained positive, saying, “I feel truly grateful to all the Barça fans, teammates, rivals, clubs, and friends for the support and love you've shown me since Sunday.
“I want to thank the Villarreal supporters for their respect displayed in the stadium, it means a lot to me. I feel positive and strong, now I focus on my recovery. Thank you!”
Despite the gruelling nature of his setback, the Barcelona goalkeeper is already looking forward to his return to the field.
Ter Stegen’s injury a major setback for Barcelona
The injury to Ter Stegen is a huge blow for Barcelona, who have relied heavily on his consistency and leadership between the posts since his 2014 signing.
His absence leaves a void that will be difficult to fill, especially with the team battling on multiple fronts this season, including trying to stop a Kylian Mbappe-led Real Madrid from retaining the LaLiga title.
Barcelona will now have to look for temporary solutions as their star goalkeeper embarks on a lengthy recovery process.
The Blaugrana have been offered the services of one of their former goalkeepers, Claudi Bravo, who is willing to come out of retirement to replace the injured ter Stegen.
Barcelona have also reportedly sounded out former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who is a free agent currently, as well as ex-Juventus goalkeeper Wojech Szeszney, who also recently announced his retirement from professional football.
