The coaching position for the Nigerian national football team has been vacant since Finidi George's departure.

However, Augustine Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, was asked to step in as the interim coach.

Eguavoen led the team in the games against Rwanda and the Benin Republic, managing four points in both games.

The Chelsea legend said, “He asked me, ‘What’s it like managing the Nigeria national team?’ I gave him my honest opinion.

“Managing Nigeria’s national team is tough. You need to be very patient because things won’t move as quickly as you might hope. Patience is crucial, but progress does happen.”

Poyet, a former assistant coach at Leeds United reached out to the former Chelsea player for his advice.

The former Nigerian international highlighted that the Super Eagles are still a good team despite the difficulties.

Mikel continued, “Most importantly, you’re getting a very good team. Regardless of the hierarchy or politics, focus on the team. You’ll find a young and talented squad that’s ready to succeed.”

Meanwhile, it was reported a few days ago that the Super Eagles interim coach has left his position as the head coach.

However, he has vehemently denied the rumours that he stepped down after the match against Rwanda and will continue as the coach of the Super Eagles.
