Paris Saint-Germain's Moroccan fullback Achraf Hakimi has reacted to being named the winner of the CAF Player of the Year Award over Ademola Lookman.

Earlier today, it was reported that there was a leak for the winner of the CAF POTY award, which will be held in some hour's time.

The report suggested that Hakimi will be declared the best African player of the year ahead of favourite Lookman.

Following the leaked news, the PSG star was quick to react to the situation and expressed his happiness at the news.

Hakimi speaks on winning the CAF Award

Speaking on Téléfoot, he said, "This nomination rewards all the work I have done since I was little. I hope to win this important trophy in my career.”

The right-back for Paris Saint-Germain made no secret of his desire to win the African Player of the Year award.

Hakimi played a crucial part in PSG's run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals and celebrated winning a bronze medal with Morocco at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The 26-year-old won the Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions with PSG.

Meanwhile, Lookman is also one of the favourites to win African Footballer of the Year after having an incredible season with Atalanta and making an impression at the Africa Cup of Nations, where he was selected in the Team of the Tournament.

The winger also won the UEFA Europa League with Atalanta last season and scored a hat trick in the final, becoming the first player to reach that feat.
