The move to offload the two midfielders to Premier League rivals has been criticised.
Former England international Paul Merson has blasted Chelsea for selling midfielders Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.
Havertz has already been sold to Arsenal, while Mount was unveiled by Manchester United on Wednesday. However, the sale of the two players, according to Merson, is not a genius move by the Blues.

The three top-tier clubs are all salivating over the midfielder, who is on the verge of leaving the Sudi-based outfit.
"Selling Mason Mount and Kai Havertz is not good business from Chelsea. I just don't get it," Merson argued.
"It may make sense if Chelsea had to bring some money in, but there is no point getting money in at the expense of missing out on the top four, which itself will lose the club more money."
Offloading Mount and Havertz is not entirely wrong for Merson, but selling them to direct rivals is what the retired footballer sees as the wrong move.
"Manchester United and Arsenal are going to be in the mix for the top four next season along with Chelsea, so why would you weaken yourself by selling two of your best players to direct rivals?" he asked.
"Chelsea fans will say Mount and Havertz didn't have great seasons last season, but they are proper players who will definitely improve the teams they go to.

The midfielder is a target for a number of clubs given how he performed last term with the relegated Saints.
"I could understand if they were sold to Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, but not to two enemies who are going to be fighting to be where you want to be just to get money in to keep on buying unproven kids."

Merson also debated if Arsenal's acquisition of the German international is good or not; "Arsenal should be buzzing with Kai Havertz, he makes them a better team," he stated.
"The only problem I could see with Havertz is similar to that experienced by Mesut Ozil at Arsenal. If it's not going well, Havertz doesn't look too interested."
