Randy Waldrum, the coach of the Nigerian women's national football team, the Super Falcons, has expressed his desire to continue in his role despite the team's disastrous outing at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
After a 16-year absence from the Olympics, the Super Falcons secured their place in Paris by defeating South Africa in the final round of the qualifiers.

However, their Olympic campaign ended in disappointment, as they suffered three consecutive defeats against World Champions Spain, Brazil, and Japan, scoring just one goal and conceding five.
Waldrum on Super Falcons plans
Despite the team's poor performance in Paris, Waldrum who stated that Nigeria didn't prepare well for the Olympics has now revealed his intention to stay on as the coach of the Super Falcons, believing that the country is on the right path with a host of young talents emerging.

"I would like to [stay on]. I love the team. I love the direction that we're headed. After a rough start here, I think we're headed in a good direction," Waldrum said per a post on social media.
The American coach further added, "There's a lot of upcoming talent as we start to move some of the older players out after the Olympics and bring some young talent in. I think we can accomplish great things in the next level."

NFF’s Decision
Despite his honest position, Waldrum acknowledged that the decision to retain him as the Super Falcons' coach will ultimately lie with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
However, he expressed hope that the federation will appreciate the team's credible performance at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, as well as their qualification for the Olympics.

Nigerians will be keen to see if the NFF will heed Waldrum's plea and retain his services, as the team looks to bounce back from their Olympic disappointment and continue their development.
