A Bruno Fernandes second yellow left Ruben Amorim's side under the cosh for the entire second half, and Wolves capitalised to beat the Red Devils.
Cunha scored a 58th-minute Olimpico goal and set up Hwang Hee-cham's strike in second-half stoppage time.
Speaking to Amazon Prime after the game, the Brazilian revealed his plan to beat Onana just before the hour, citing his replication of training routines.
"I was shooting," said Cunha. "We train to shoot! The second one I had this luck and scored the goal!”
The club's top scorer also credited the new boss, Vitor Pereira, for changing the mood at Molineux.
“He came here with a lot of energy,” continued the forward. “He said that he dreamed of coming to the Premier League and we saw this, we can see this energy. We can come with these kind of things.”
What next for Wolves?
Cunha and his teammates return to top-flight action against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, December 29, keen to clinch a third straight win under the new boss.
