Julian Alvarez has opened up on leaving Manchester City for Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.

Julian Alvarez has revealed that he left Manchester City for Atletico Madrid in search of a new challenge in his career.

Despite being a key contributor to City's success, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists in 36 Premier League games last season, Alvarez felt the need for a change.

The Argentine forward had an impressive two-season stint at City, winning the Premier League in both years and the treble in his first year.

However, Alvarez opted for a fresh start in the Spanish capital, joining Atletico Madrid for a whopping €95m (£82m) transfer fee, which yielded a substantial profit for City.

The striker will come to kick his season off with a bang when Atletico Madrid take on Villarreal in their season opener.
