Rudiger stars for Germany at EURO 2024
Two second-half goals from Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz, the latter from the penalty spot, sealed Germany's progress to the next round.
But it was Rudiger's wild celebrations after a vital late tackle inside the six-yard box that stole the show - and the 31-year-old has now revealed the reason behind his passionate reaction.
Everyone who knows football knows I'm an emotional person on the pitch,' Rudiger told EURO2024.com after the game.
At one point near the end, I made a good block, and I think I prevented a goal. So I celebrated a lot - I refused to let them score!'
Rudiger was named man of the match for his dominant defensive display, which helped Germany keep a clean sheet against their Scandinavian opponents.
And the former Chelsea star was delighted with the result, insisting the team were 'desperate' to progress for the sake of their passionate home supporters.
With these games, if you lose you're out,' Rudiger added. 'But we were desperate to get through, for our fans. We all fought for each other, and did everything as a team.'
Germany will now face the winner of the round of 16 clash between Spain and Georgia in the quarter-finals next week, with Rudiger and co. dreaming of lifting the trophy on home soil.
But after his heroics against Denmark, the Real Madrid colossus has already cemented his status as a fan favourite - and his wild celebrations prove he shares the same passion as the German faithful.
