NFF search for new coach
The Nigerian head coach role has been rifed with uncertainty since Finidi George left the job earlier in the year, following a run of four games.
After an unsuccessful search for a permanent head coach, with a foreign option preferred, the federation's technical director, Austin Eguavoen, was made interim boss, with crucial AFCON games on the horizon.
The Super Eagles have now sealed qualification for the showpiece in Morocco next year; hence, the necessity for a new permanent head coach was brought back to the fore as Nigeria face an uphill battle to qualify for the next World Cup.
What Hill said
Hill, whose only experience in international football is as the Jordan FA’s academy manager, is enticed by the prospect of coaching Nigeria, and he declared his interest on Sports Boom.
“This is a role I truly fancy because of its demanding nature and the likelihood it brings to push one to do their best,” Hill said.
“It’s a great, untapped talent pool. I enjoy the cultural and sporting experiences, and I know I do well with them. And the profile it offers, you know. It’s a highly contested role, but with my strong resume, you might wonder why I’m not working at present. It’s a mystery.”
Showing that he has been following the team, Hill lauded the work Eguavoen has done in his fourth stint in charge and said that Nigeria can still qualify for the World Cup despite languishing fifth after four games in a qualification group of six.
“You have to applaud the work already being done by Augustine and his crew. Qualification for the World Cup is definitely something that can be achieved as well.”
