England and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has expressed a desire to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo after the 5-time Ballon d'Or winner scored his 900th goal.

Harry Kane believes Cristiano Ronaldo embodies longevity and is determined to follow in his footsteps.

Ronaldo achieved a remarkable feat, scoring the 900th goal of an incredible career to help Portugal defeat Croatia 2-1 in their Nations League opener on Thursday.

That goal was his 131st in 213 appearances for Portugal and one that puts even more daylight between the ex-Real Madrid man and greatest rival Lionel Messi.

Despite his impressive goal-scoring record, he's yet to win a championship with either his club or country.

In a recent interview before England's Nations League clash with the Republic of Ireland, Kane expressed his admiration for Ronaldo and his desire to follow in his footsteps.

“Cristiano is the benchmark, not only being one of the best footballers ever but also the benchmark of how long you can play for at a higher level," Kane said.

"I feel in a really good place, both physically and mentally. I'm sure there will be noise around me like there was around Cristiano - and there still is around Cristiano - but as long as you keep performing and keep doing what you know you can, that's all you can do.

“The Ronaldos, the Messis, the Benzemas, the Lewandowskis, almost upped their level as they got into their mid-thirties.

"Cristiano is showing that every week, every time he plays, every time he scores so, from my point of view, that's the aim.”
