Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on his plans for retirement as he approaches his 40th birthday.

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed what must happen for him to hang up his boots.

Ronaldo, who was recently awarded the Middle Eastern Player of the Year, spoke candidly about the prospect of retiring.

The 39-year-old icon now boasts an incredible 916 career goals, with 135 of those coming for Portugal.

With many wondering when the iconic forward will hang his boots, CR7 has come out to clear the air.

"I just want to enjoy," Ronaldo said. "Plan for the retirement… if it has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know."

As he approaches his 40th birthday, Ronaldo's mindset remains simple:

"I’m turning 40 soon… I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going."

"The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire."

Ronaldo's focus remains on the present, but his words indicate a desire to keep playing until the 2026 World Cup and earn one last chance to win the coveted trophy like his great rival Lionel Messi.
