Nigeria and Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has confessed his love for South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed his admiration for South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs, revealing his desire to play for the club in the future.

Nwabali, who gained significant recognition for his stellar performances during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d'Ivoire, has been at the centre of transfer speculation following his impressive showing.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper played a crucial role in guiding Nigeria to the AFCON final against hosts Ivory Coast, recording three clean sheets and several standout performances throughout the tournament.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed, leading to interest from various clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

“To be honest, Kaizer Chiefs is really one of the clubs I really want to play for,” Nwabali stated.

“This is the club I want to play for in South Africa, with all my heart. I won’t say I have been supporting them, but this is the club I felt I want to play for.”

Stanley Nwabali also captained Chippa United.

His heartfelt admission shows a strong personal connection to the club, which has a storied history in South African football.

Despite the buzz surrounding his potential transfer, Nwabali remains with Chippa United as discussions about his future continue. He noted that while many clubs have shown interest, some are hesitant to meet his valuation.

Kaizer Chiefs have used 108 players in the last 10 years.

“A lot of clubs have come for me, but probably they are not willing to pay my worth and are looking at me as ‘It’s just his first hit at AFCON; let’s keep on watching him,” he explained.

This sentiment reflects a common challenge faced by players who experience a sudden rise in prominence.

Ndah and Nwabali are two of Super Eagles main stars in South Africa.

Nwabali's stock has risen considerably since the AFCON final, despite Nigeria ultimately losing 2-1 to Ivory Coast.

The goalkeeper's performances have sparked rumours of potential moves abroad, particularly within South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL). Chippa United's management has indicated a willingness to negotiate a transfer, with reports suggesting they would entertain offers from PSL rivals like Kaizer Chiefs for less than 8 million Rand.

With the January transfer window approaching, all eyes will be on this talented goalkeeper as he navigates this pivotal moment in his career.
