Former Kariobangi Sharks winger Enock Wanyama spent time with Taiwan side Leopard Cat before returning to the Kenyan Premier League to join the ranks of 21-time FKFPL champions Gor Mahia.

Gor Mahia forward Enock Wanyama has shed light on his challenging stint with Taiwan League side Leopard Cat, offering a glimpse into the highs and lows of his football journey abroad.

The 23-year-old, who was linked with a move to Gor Mahia during the summer of the 2022/23 season, opted instead to join Leopard Cat despite interest from then-Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry.

Initially, the decision seemed to pay off, with Wanyama delivering a brilliant first half of the campaign. However, the second half saw a drastic shift in his fortunes.

"Apparently, it was like I was being fought. It happens," Wanyama shared via Tata Sport, reflecting on the difficulties he faced.

"The way I performed for the club in the first leg of the campaign really pushed me far, but in the second leg, I played less and less," he recounted.

"I’ve never been someone to complain about these things, but I was not getting minutes. Some players were not coming to training, yet I was pushing myself, ever-present. So I felt like the coach was suppressing me."

The former Kariobangi Sharks player explained that his silence in the face of these challenges may have been misinterpreted.

"When I’m suppressed, I tend to be silent, and that gets mistaken for arrogance, which was not my intention. I just wanted to get back to playing," he said.

At one point, the winger considered confronting the coach to understand his lack of game time but felt the relationship had already soured.

"The coach didn’t even answer me. He answered me with his actions. At some point, I wasn’t even playing or was getting measly minutes. I had to go where I’m appreciated," Wanyama admitted.

Following his frustrations in Taiwan, Wanyama made the decision to return home, signing with Kenya Premier League giants Gor Mahia on a free transfer ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The move marked a return to familiar territory, fulfilling long-standing rumors linking him to the 21-time FKF Premier League champions.
