The former PSG vice-captain has made a post on social over Kylian Mbappe's new leadership role at the club.
PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe is seemingly unhappy with the club’s recent decision. The former vice-captain of the French champions acknowledged in an Instagram post that he was not informed by the club of his teammate Kylian Mbappe's 'promotion'.
Earlier on Monday, Kylian Mbappé wore the captain's armband in the Parisians' 7-0 thrashing of Pays de Cassel , in a game in which the striker became the first player in the history of the club to score five goals in the same match.
Following the result, PSG coach Christophe Galtier, later acknowledged that he had "appointed" Mbappe as the team's second captain, in a decision that has now caused a bit of a stir amongst some senior squad players including defender Presnel Kimpembe.
Kimpembe releases statement following Kylian Mbappe’s vice-captaincy
The 27-year-old former Chelsea target uploaded a post on social media in which he claimed that "he had not been informed" by PSG of the decision to give the second captaincy to Mbappé, but that he "respected the decision of the club".
"In the last few hours I have been able to hear and read a lot about myself, so I want to set the record straight to avoid further spreading false information that I was not aware of.
“This decision, this is completely false... Having said that, I will always respect the club's decisions." the post read as translated by AS.
PSG did not notify the former academy player of their decision to relegate his position as vice-captain.
But the relationship between Mbappe and Kimpember is reportedly still healthy.
Mbappe is currently just four goals away from equalling Edinson Cavani as PSG's all-time top scorer.
He now serves as the vice captain of the club and the French national team, with rumours suggesting he could also assume the captaincy of the two-time world champions after the international retirement of current skipper Hugo Lloris.
