Former Manchester City defender Stuart Pearce has asserted that Taiwo Awoniyi is a reliable substitute for Chris Wood, who is currently in form.
Awoniyi has started the season as a substitute despite his impressive performance last season.
The Super Eagles striker has struggled with injuries, which has kept him out of the team for a long time.
His injury crisis has led to Woods taking up his position in the team, with the New Zealand international scoring nine goals in 14 starts for Nottingham Forest this season.

‘That was a step back’ - Nottingham Forest manager reveals the cause of Awoniyi’s decline
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed the cause of Taiwo Awoniyi’s poor performance this season.
Pearce speaks about Awoniyi
Pearce thinks that one of Forest's main advantages is the depth of their attacking unit, especially in terms of their ability to counterattack.
According to Nottinghampost, he said, “The legs they’ve got on the counterattack have been very good. They are the only team to win at Liverpool because of the counterattack threat they offer.
“And Chris Wood is scoring goals, which is fantastic for the club as well. He is having a halcyon period in his career.
“If he’s not fit, Taiwo Awoniyi did well last season so can step in for him. The bottom line is they’ve got threat on the counterattack with pace, and two goalscorers at the point of the team.”
Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi both failed to score as Nottingham Forest stumbled to a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
However, they will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Manchester United on Saturday.
