Bruno Fernandes recently revealed he had an offer to quit Manchester United last summer.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been advised to consider departing Old Trafford in pursuit of silverware.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has suggested the Portuguese playmaker deserves to be at a club capable of winning major trophies.

Cole, reflecting on Fernandes' contributions since his 2020 arrival from Sporting CP, believes the midfielder has been a standout performer in an otherwise challenging period for Manchester United.

The three-time Premier League winner told Paddy Power as reported by The Mirror,

"If I'm Bruno Fernandes, I'd absolutely be looking for a move away from Manchester United.

"He's the first butterfly and he's getting all the arrows from everyone.

"He must go home at night and wonder why everyone is digging him out when he's the only one pulling his weight in this team."

Highlighting Fernandes' consistent performances, Cole added, "There are others doing okay but he is literally dragging that club through this dire moment."

The Chelsea legend further emphasised the midfielder's potential to excel elsewhere, stating:

"He's a fantastic footballer and you could put him into most teams, and he'd thrive, but I don't think he's won a league in his career and he needs to go and prove to himself that he can play in a top side because he's run his race at Manchester United."

Fernandes' commitment amidst criticism

Despite external opinions, Fernandes has demonstrated unwavering commitment to Manchester United.

The 30-year-old star recently revealed he had an offer to leave last summer but chose to stay after understanding the club's vision for the future.

Fernandes said as per The Sun: "I sat with the club because I had an offer to leave, we talked about the possibility of me leaving the club or staying.

"They said what they wanted from me.

"I heard what they had to tell me. I thought that we could be successful.

"Unfortunately, we didn't start the season very well.

"Erik had to lose his job by the results we had and the performance we had, but the fault was on everyone and everyone together with the manager."

Manchester United's management recognises Fernandes' importance to the team. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently highlighted the need for players of Fernandes' calibre, stating as per BBC Sport, "There are some great players in the squad as we know, the captain is a fabulous footballer.

"We definitely need Bruno, he's a fantastic footballer."

For now, Fernandes will be focused on his return to action for Portugal when they face Denmark in the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final tonight at the Parken Stadium.
