I’m a nobody — Nicolas Jackson chooses to stay humble amid comparisons to Chelsea legend

Jackson is tired of the constant comparisons to Didier Drogba.

Nicolas Jackson has seemingly had enough of the ongoing comparisons to club legend Didier Drogba.

Despite a growing reputation and a strong start to the current campaign, the Senegalese striker has humbly dismissed the parallels, with Daily Mail stating that the 23-year-old has branded himself a “nobody” compared to Drogba’s legacy.

Having scored seven goals and provided three assists in just 12 league matches this season, Jackson’s performances have drawn inevitable comparisons to the Ivorian legend.

Both African forwards shared the No. 15 jersey during their early Chelsea careers, adding fuel to the debate.

However, Jackson has expressed frustration with the relentless comparisons, candidly stating in private circles that Drogba’s legendary status far outweighs his current achievements.

Interestingly, Jackson’s goal tally after 57 games (24 goals) surpasses Drogba’s record of 23 during the same period.

But for Jackson, the numbers are not enough to earn him the title of a legend.

Instead, he remains focused on self-improvement and carving out his unique identity at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca’s trust fuels Jackson’s growth

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has played a pivotal role in Jackson’s evolution.

A staunch believer in the striker’s potential, Maresca dismissed calls for a new forward, including rumours of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, during his discussions with Chelsea’s sporting directors.

This faith has paid off as Jackson ranks among the Premier League’s top scorers, trailing only Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins in non-penalty goals since last season.

As Chelsea gear up for a clash against Aston Villa, Jackson has the perfect opportunity to continue proving his worth while maintaining his humble approach.

The Blues host the Villains at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, December 1.

A win could see them go second ahead of Brighton and Man City, with the latter set to face league leaders Liverpool in a crucial title credentials clash on Super Sunday.
