'I'm glad I left'- Pique hits out at Barcelona

Former Barcelona player Gerard Pique has criticised the club for blaming club legends for their ongoing financial turmoil.

Pique retired from playing earlier in the 2022–23 campaign before club captain Sergio Busquets and seasoned defender Jordi Alba announced they would depart the Nou Camp at the conclusion of the campaign.

With multiple high-profile signings made in the last six years since Neymar's departure, the club has been hobbled by financial issues for years, with apparent mismanagement driving them into financial despair.

Pique has taken aim at the Spanish giants, saying that despite his decision to leave and help ease the country's economic woes, he does not believe that anything has changed.

Pique glad he left Barcelona

Gerard Pique has expressed his displeasure with the Barcelona board and he is glad he left the club at this time.

Speaking to Ibai Llanos and other members of the King's League, which was reported by Daily Mail, Pique said, “I'm glad I left because I gave Barça space on the salary scale. But it seems that, despite this, there are still financial problems.

“I wonder who should go now. They said that we are responsible for our salaries (Pique, Busquets, Alba). Now, we've all left and yet they can't sign players!”

Due to their financial instability, Barcelona were informed in March that they needed to generate £178 million to meet LaLiga requirements. The exits of both Busquets and Alba will undoubtedly have contributed to their reaching this goal.

Barcelona looking to bring Messi

Barcelona are still working on bringing Lionel Messi back to the club this summer after it was reported that he would leave PSG.

The only stumbling block holding Messi’s deal is his wages which he earns. He is currently receiving £500,000-a-week wages and Barcelona will have to generate money in order to sign the Argentine.

Franck Kessie set for Barcelona stay

The Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie has been reportedly said to have given the green light for a move away from Camp Nou but his agent had denied those reports.

Messi wants to make a decision about his next move as soon as possible with Barca set to meet with La Liga officials to present their financial situation.

Messi has also been linked with several clubs outside Europe with the likes of MLS side Inter Miami and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal all interested in him.
