The Super Eagles' new head coach, Eric Chelle, has revealed why he accepted to take the Nigerian coaching job.
The former Mali boss was appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles by the NFF and is set to be unveiled in Abuja.
Chelle took over from interim coach Augustine Eguavoen after qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
Following his appointment, the new head coach accepted a fresh challenge and said goodbye to his team, MC Oran.

Chelle’s message to MC Oran
Chelle has openly called his choice self-serving but stressed that the chance to lead a squad like Nigeria was too great to pass up.
According to Mediafootdz, he said, “I have the chance to join the best team in Africa and one of the best in the world.
“It’s true that I’m very selfish. But once again, I thank the Algerians as well as the Oran public for the welcome.
“I also thank my management who has always put me in the best conditions, as well as my staff and all my players.”
After the Nigeria Football Federation's announcement last week, Chelle said he was enticed by the opportunity to lead the Nigeria national team.
As Chelle gets ready to lead the Super Eagles B team in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifications in March, there are great hopes for his appointment.
