Tanzanian giants Young Africans have another Ugandan on the books in Gift Fred.
The former SC Villa captain, who penned a three-year deal on Tuesday, will play alongside compatriot and Uganda Cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho.
For Gift, choosing Young Africans was never a debate because of the fanbase and dominance the side has exhibited in the past two seasons.
“It was an obvious choice,” Gift Fred told Pulse Sports adding.
“It’s the biggest club in East Africa, and I don’t think you have to think twice to sign; I also wanted to improve on my career and achieve my targets.”
“I know what it means to play for this team, especially the vibrant fans who demand a lot because every season, they (Yanga) compete for trophies,” he added.
Playing for the Jangweni-based side comes with a lot of pressure; having won back-to-back domestic trebles, however, the 24-year-old former Booma United defender knows he will adapt and follow Khalid Aucho’s advice.
“It’s a big challenge, the pressure is there to please the fans, and it will be more this season because this is a big club, but I will adapt to the environment and with the squad.”

Gift Fred came within minutes of winning his first silverware in club football as he captained SC Villa in a title run-in but lost to URA FC on the final day, something he hopes he now can achieve with ‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi’.
