Francesco Acerbi has been acquitted of charges of racism against Napoli defender Juan Jesus
Francesco Acerbi has now avoided a sanction or ban in the racism case in Serie A. Sky Italia have confirmed the result of the case involving Inter’s Acerbi and Napoli’s Juan Jesus, and it is official that the Italian has been acquitted.
Lack of evidence gets Acerbi acquitted
It was previously feared that if the player was found guilty of racism, he would be banned for a minimum of ten games or would be handed a fixed-term suspension. Acerbi had previously stated that his words were misunderstood by Jesus, who was clear in his stance that he was racially abused in the game last weekend.
Acerbi was set free due to a lack of evidence in the case which convinced the prosecutors that he didn’t make racist remarks against the Brazilian defender. As a result, Acerbi will not be sanctioned.
Implications for Acerbi and Inter
This means that Acerbi’s future at Inter is still very much secure. The verdict clears Acerbi of any wrongdoing in the eyes of the law, and he can continue his career without facing any further consequences.
With the Italian defender found not guilty, the judgement brings closure to a troubling incident in Serie A.
