With Joan Laporta and Deco aligned on his potential, the Newcastle star could be the ideal long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Laporta and Deco see Isak as the future, but financial challenges loom
At present, Barcelona are satisfied with Lewandowski and Ferran Torres leading their attack, but they are well aware that the Polish striker is nearing the twilight of his career.
)
This is why Joan Laporta and Deco have identified Isak as a key target for the future. According to Sport, the club met with Isak’s representatives in late 2024, and while no concrete agreement was reached, both parties left the discussions on good terms.
Laporta, in particular, is pushing for "a significant financial effort" to sign Isak, believing he could be Barcelona’s next great number nine.
)
However, Newcastle are reluctant to sell and would demand a massive fee, which could be a roadblock given Barcelona’s financial struggles.
Despite this, there is a silver lining, which is that Newcastle might prefer selling Isak to Barcelona rather than strengthening Arsenal or Liverpool, who are also vying for his signature.
Barcelona see Isak as perfect Lewandowski successor
At just 24 years old, Isak has developed into one of the Premier League’s most lethal forwards in the world thanks to his speed, technical brilliance, and clinical finishing.
)
This season alone the Swede has scored 19 goals and created 10 big chances while notching up five assists.
The big question remains: Can Barcelona afford him? Newcastle’s asking price will likely be above €100m, and Barcelona’s financial limitations are well-known. Even if the club raises funds through player sales, they might struggle to outbid Premier League rivals.
)
For now, Isak remains an ambitious target, but unless Barcelona’s finances drastically improve, the Swedish striker may remain just out of reach.
