Sadiq struggling for game time
The 27-year-old Kaduna-born striker joined La Reale from Almeria as a high-profile signing in the summer of 2022, as the club hoped he would salve the pain of losing Alexander Isak to Newcastle.
Sadiq had a statement start to life at Anoeta, scoring a stunner in a debut against Atletico Madrid. However, he suffered a cruciate ligament tear and missed the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.
He has since returned and was largely available last season, but he only managed 12 starts. His situation has not improved this season, as he has featured in less than half the matches Real Sociedad have played this season, starting only two.
What Sadiq said
Speaking in an interview with Spanish media, Sadiq, who was in the last Super Eagles camp, expressed his disappointment at his idleness. He believes he needs continuity to return to the form that helped him command a €20 million price tag two seasons ago.
“I just need continuity and that does not depend on me,” Sadiq said, per Eldesmarque. “I’m training well, I’m more than a professional now, and that other part doesn’t depend on me.
“The only thing I can do is keep pushing and keep training hard and, when I have continuity, it will be time to prove it.”
