Amorim has verbally agreed personal terms with the Red Devils.

Paul Scholes has opined that the hype surrounding Ruben Amorim's imminent appointment at Manchester United is reminiscent of when Erik ten Hag arrived at the club in 2022.

The Red Devils are thought to be in the final stages of wrapping up a deal to appoint the 39-year-old Sporting CP as the permanent successor of Ten Hag after the Dutchman was relieved of his duties on Monday.

News of Amorim's impending arrival has been described as a good move if the impressive resume of the highly-rated tactician is anything to go by. Scholes, who made 499 appearances for Manchester United in a career that spanned close to two decades, said the loud noise isn't too dissimilar  to that which surrounded Ten Hag.

The 54-year-old Ten Hag  savoured ties with Ajax in the summer of 2022 to continue his impressive record in England's top tier by inking  a deal with United but found the going tough before being shown the exit door. His Carabao Cup and FA titles weren't enough to save Ten Hag from his job. "I agree on Ruben Amorim. It [the hype] feels a bit like Erik ten Hag [when he joined Manchester United]," Scholes said as reported by The Daily Mail.

"I know he’s meant to sign in the coming days and hours, but Sporting play Manchester City next week, and Arsenal in the next three or four weeks. It might be a chance to give him a public interview, and see how he handles the media, see how his team plays."

Amorim has verbally agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and United have informed Sporting they will pay the €10million (£8.3m) release clause in Amorim's contract to bring him to Old Trafford.

Amorim, who is set to triple his current £2.15m-a-year salary, has long been linked with bringing his brand of football to England. He has developed a reputation as one of Europe's hottest coaches after guiding Sporting to two league titles in four years.
