Xavi Hernandez has bid farewell to Barcelona in a statement following his sacking from the club by Joan Laporta.

Joan Laporta broke the news to Xavi that he had been fired and that he wouldn't be coaching Barcelona the next season.

The Spaniard won the trophy with the club last season but fell short of competing for the Laliga this season.

Xavi's farewell

In a farewell speech shared on social media, the Catalan coach thanked everyone, including the Azulgrana president, and said goodbye to the Azulgrana family.

Accoring to Marca, Xavi said, "Dear Culés. On Sunday my time on the Barça bench will come to an end. It is never easy to leave the club of your life, but I do it very proudly, after two and a half years at the head of a dressing room that has been like a second family.

"I want to thank the support and affection of the fans, who have always been by my side and have shown me at all times the same esteem as in my time as a footballer.

“From Sunday onwards I will be one more Culé in the stands, either now at the Estadi Olímpic or in a few months at the New Camp Nou.

“Because before being a player or a coach, I am a Barcelonista and I only want the best for the club of my life, which will always have me at its disposal.

"I have worked with a fantastic group of players and a spectacular staff. Thanks to all of them we have been achieving our goals, culminating last season with a league title and a Super Cup.

“This season things have not turned out the way we wanted, but we have given our all and we have helped a new generation of young players from La Masia to grow and they are exciting all of us Barcelonistas.

"Thank you very much to everyone. To the fans, the players, the staff, the club's employees, the President, the Board of Directors, the sporting directors, the media and everyone with whom I have shared the journey during these two and a half seasons. I wish the best for the club that I carry in my heart. Visca el Barça".
