Tolu Arokodare expressed his delight at having his father present to watch him play for the Super Eagles during their recent 2026 World Cup qualifying matches

The Nigerian international earned his first call-up to the Super Eagles team following an impressive season with Genk.

The striker came in as a substitute against Zimbabwe and Rwanda and played a role in Osimhen’s goal against the Warriors.

The Racing Genk striker was energetic and nearly scored his first international goal multiple times.

Arokodare speaks about his dad

In an interview with Racing Genk's YouTube channel, Arokodare expressed the profound honour of representing his country and emphasised the momentous occasion's significance for his family, particularly his father.

"I was very happy for my dad because I know it meant a lot to him. I was also happy he could come to watch me play for the first time ever.

"Professionally, he watched me in Nigeria and I almost scored. We didn't win but I got to train with people that I look up to - people I see on Instagram, social media, Snapchat, watch in the Premier League. I got to train with them and I saw the mentality. It was different, it was a good experience."

Tolu's dad witnessed him play at a high level for the first time in his professional career, as he was an important guest at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

This season, Arokodare has scored 18 goals in 31 matches and he is currently the top scorer of the Jupiler Pro League.
