Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has questioned why William Troost-Ekong, the captain of the Super Eagles, was left out of the 2024 CAF Team of the Year.
Ekong became an important player for the Super Eagles following his return to the team under Jose Peseiro.
The Super Eagles captain led his team at the 2023 AFCON tournament and came out as the first runners-up in the competition, earning him the MVP award at the tournament, having scored three goals for his country.
However, a few days ago, CAF unveiled its 2024 Team of the Year, with Ekong’s name omitted from the team.

Udeze slams CAF
Ifeanyi Udeze shared his opinions on the intriguing discussions that Ekong's exclusion generated in the Nigerian media, asking why the top AFCON player didn't make the Continents squad of the year.
He told Brila, “Troost Ekong is the AFCON MVP, why isn’t he on the Africa best XI? He doesn’t need a vote, his place should be automatic.”
At the 2024 CAF Awards in Morocco, CAF announced their best eleven, which included two Nigerians: Ademola Lookman, who won player of the year, and Victor Osimhen.
Achraf Hakimi, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Chancel Mbemba completed the back three for the team, with Ekong missing on the list.
