Noordin Bunjo needed only three minutes after coming on to to make his present felt as Soltilo Bright Stars defeated KCCA FC 1-0 in the quarterfinal of the Stanbic Uganda Cup tie played at Kavumba Recreation Grounds on Sunday.

The creative midfielder came on in the 58th minute for Frank Kato Kizanyiro and opened the scoring three minutes later with literally his first touch.

The goal was enough to eliminate KCCA FC for a second successive time in the competition, and Bunjo says the belief from his teammates, and himself spurred him on.

“I am grateful to my fellow players for believing in me; that gave me the courage to believe in myself to score. In football, you have to believe you can achieve,” Bunjo noted.

“This is a huge motivation for us to get our winning touch back; hopefully, we build on this and get our season back on track.”

The win was Soltilo Bright Stars’ first in five games across all competitions, having lost their last four league games on the bounce.

Head coach Asaph Mwebaze says his side can go far in the competition after reaching the semis.

“Of course, we have come far, we have eliminated KCCA FC, so we have a chance. We have two semifinal leg ties, so we can always build on that; we can make the finals.”

Soltilo Bright Stars are hoping to make the final for the second time in the club’s history since 2019, when they lost 1-0 to Proline FC.
