Arsenal legend has acknowledged that Mikel Arteta's squad rotation options would be an issue for the team this season.

The first north London derby of the 2023–24 season will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with the Gunners looking to get back to winning ways.

However, Arteta will be without some of his key players following their sudden injury during the international break.

Emmanuel Petit, who played for Arsenal back in the day, has shared his concern for the team squad depth.

Petit speaks on Arsenal’s issue

Petit has acknowledged that at the beginning of the season, he was concerned about the level of choices available to the Arsenal squad outside of the starting eleven.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Petit said, “That was my worry at the beginning of the season. It was the same last season, rotation of the team and this is the main problem for Arteta.

“When you play every three days in big games because the Champions League is back next week so it will be very tough mentally and physically.

“We can see that Pep Guardiola is changing his eleven every day three days, he takes away six players from the first eleven, but Arteta doesn’t get the same luxury of options. For me, this could be again very important this season.”

He mentioned that it is a luxury that Arteta lacks and that it might become a significant issue once more this season.

Declan Rice (suspended), Martin Odegaard (ankle injury sustained during the international break) and Riccardo Calafiori ( thigh Injury) are three important players absent for Arteta's team.

The new addition to Arsenal, Mikel Merino, is also out due to a shoulder injury. The manager of the team must decide on his starting lineup for the upcoming weekend.

The Gunners are in fourth place and among the strongest favourites to win the league after finishing in second place the previous two seasons.
