Despite his father’s legacy with Italy, the young striker has chosen to represent the Czech Republic at the youth level, a move he believes is best for his career.

Buffon explains reasons for snubbing Italy

According to Buffon Junior, the decision to play for the Czech Republic U18 national team came after careful consideration with his family.

Born to Gianluigi Buffon and Czech model Alena Seredova, the young forward has ties to both nations but ultimately felt that representing the Czech side aligned better with his footballing development.

The 17-year-old forward said, “After discussing with my family, we decided it was best for my career and development.”

With the full backing of his parents, he made his debut for the Czech Republic U18 squad in February and has now been called up again for a tournament in Portugal, where he will compete against England, Portugal, and France.

Buffon prepared to play against Italy

Despite his surname attracting media attention, Buffon noted that he is focused on settling into his new footballing environment, adding, “I was happy to join the team and curious about the different football culture.”

Buffon is now fully committed to his international journey with the Czech Republic and is eager to contribute to the team’s success. With the U19 European Championship qualifiers on the horizon, he is determined to cement his place in the squad.

His decision has inevitably raised questions about how he would feel if he ever had to face Italy in an international match and the young forward replied, “Every match is important to me, whether it’s against Italy or any other team.”

Clearly, Buffon is not dwelling on his surname or the expectations that come with it. Instead, he is focused on carving out his own path in football even if it means going against the team his father formed a legacy with.
