The Super Eagles of Nigeria are about to miss out on 19-year-old superstar Luca Koleosho who is reportedly set to be called up by the Italian national team
Teenage superstar Luca Koleosho is attracting attention from the Italian national team thanks to his impressive performances for Burnley in the Premier League so far this season.
Azzurri head coach Luciano Spalletti stated that youngsters Cesare Casadei and Koleosho are being monitored for senior national team involvement in the near future.
Koleosho has already represented Italy at under-19, 20 and 21 levels but remains eligible to also play for the United States, Canada and Nigeria at senior level.
What Luciano Spalletti said
Spalletti confirmed that Italy will be looking to use EURO 2024 to usher in young talents and Koleosho was named among the chosen few by the manager.
"My duty is to look, observe and find out all that can make people celebrate. Players like Kayode, Ranieri, Koleosho and Casadei have emerged," Spalletti said.
The manager added, "We’ve been monitoring them for a while. Bove is a certainty and I’ve liked Lucca’s behaviour lately. Then Prati and Calafiori. The latter is a certainty in the middle [of defence] and on the left and is ready for the national team."
Luca Koleosho's international career
Koleosho has been courted by the United States with manager Gregg Berhalter publicly speaking about their desire to recruit the youngster who was born in Connecticut.
The 19-year-old was born and raised in the United States to a Nigerian father and an Italian-Canadian mother which is his connection to all four nations.
Koleosho has played for Canada under-15s before switching to Italy for the rest of his youth team football and now faces a crossroad for his senior international choice.
