The Super Eagles star went off injured in Hertha Berlin’s warm-up game ahead of Bundesliga resumption.
Super Eagles star Chidera Ejuke could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in Hertha Berlin’s friendly match against The Villages SC ahead of their return to Bundesliga action.
Ejuke was in action as The Old Lady thrashed their lowly-rated opponents 7-1. However, the Super Eagles star did not finish the game as he walked off with an injury.
Ejuke suffers a knee injury
Initially, it looked like it was a precaution but Ejuke was seen walking with crutches after the game. Following the match, Hertha’s coach Sandro Schwarz shared more details on Ejuke’s injury, saying the Nigerian international suffered a knee injury.
Schwarz revealed Ejuke could not bend his knee after the game, but he would not need an operation on it.
Of course, it’s a shame for Chidi,” Schwarz said as per Taggespiegel
Big blow for Ejuke
Meanwhile, the club’s Sporting Director Fredi Bobic rued Ejuke’s injury, saying it is a big blow for the club.
“An injury at such a time is always bitter,” Bobic said.
It is also a blow for Ejuke, who is yet to perform to expectations since he joined the German club last year. Ejuke joined Hertha on loan from CSKA Moscow last summer after FIFA allowed foreign players in Russia to leave following the ban on Russia and their clubs.
The former Heenreeven winger has played 15 times for the Old Lady this season but has just three assists his name. With the injury, Ejuke is expected to miss Hertha’s first Bundesliga game of the year against VFL Bochum next weekend.
