The former Germany star has revealed that ending his career with Golden Foot Award recognition is a great honour.

Toni Kroos, who retired from professional football last summer, has been honoured with the Golden Foot Award.

The Golden Foot Award is unique in that it celebrates players over the age of 28 who have demonstrated outstanding achievements both on the field and in terms of personality.

Kross reacts after winning Golden Foot Award

The former Real Madrid and Germany star participated virtually via a video call where he expressed his deep appreciation for the recognition.

"It’s a special night for me. It is beautiful to be recognized for such a prestigious award. Also that so many former players and legends have voted for me is something that means a lot to me," Kroos stated, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

He further added, "It’s an honour and a very nice way to end my career."

Kroos won the prestigious award ahead of strong contenders like Rodri and Vinicius Jr., who also occupied the top two spots in the Ballon d'Or rankings.

Barcelona dominated major categories

Interestingly, Kroos was the sole Real Madrid representative to receive an award at the event.

Barcelona dominated the other major categories, with Lamine Yamal winning the Golden Boy Award (best U-21 player in Europe), Vicky Lopez taking home the Golden Girl Award (best female U-21 player in Europe), and Aitana Bonmati being crowned the Golden Woman (best female player in Europe).
