Mato, 19, linked up with the side on Tuesday from his base in Turkey and immediately took part in a training session with the rest of the squad, as confirmed by FUFA on Tuesday afternoon.

Forward Mato Rogers became the last player to link up the Uganda Cranes squad in Morocco as preparations for the upcoming final match day in the 2023 AFCON qualification process nears.

Mato, 19, linked up with the side on Tuesday from his base in Turkey and immediately took part in a training session with the rest of the squad, as confirmed by FUFA on Tuesday afternoon.

“With the arrival of Rogers Mato this morning (Tuesday), it’s now full house in Marrakech,” FUFA tweeted.

“All 23 summoned players are in camp and available for selection as preparations for the Niger – Uganda #AFCON2023Q final group match intensifies.”

In August 2023, the former Proline FC and KCCA FC forward joined Turkish second-division side Sanliurfa Spor Kulubu on a two-year deal and managed a couple of matches.

The Uganda Cranes have scored only three goals from their campaign, with Mato Rogers scoring one during the 1-0 away win against Tanzania on match day four. Bayo Fahad and Milton Karisa are the other scorers for the Uganda Cranes.

With the team struggling to score goals and captain Emmanuel Okwii missing in action, Micho hopes Mato Rogers, Fahad Bayo, Frank Ssebuufu and Richard Basangwa will carry the goal-scoring burden.

The Uganda Cranes sit third in Group F with four points and must win their final AFCON 2023 qualifier against Niger on Thursday as they hope that Algeria beat Tanzania.

The Cranes - Niger game will take place on Thursday 7th, September at the Grand Marrakech Stadium starting at 10 pm.
