Amorim has declared that the club captain is "not going anywhere" this summer, despite speculation about a potential transfer to Real Madrid.

Speaking at a news conference, the Red Devils head coach was emphatic in his denial of the rumours, reiterating that Fernandes is a key player for Manchester United and that the club wants to keep him.
"No, it's not going to happen," said Amorim on Tuesday when asked about the rumours.
"He's not going anywhere because I've already told him."

The United captain has been in excellent form for United this season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions.
Furthermore, Fernandes' 31 goals plus assists better every Premier League player except Mohammed Salah (54) and Erling Haaland (33), magnifying the Portuguese star's importance to the Manchester outfit.

Amorim then defended Fernandes against criticism, acknowledging his passion and desire to win before reiterating that the midfield man is a "special player" and an important part of the club's future.
"We want to win the Premier League again so we want the best players to continue with us,” said the Man Utd boss. “He's 30 but he's still so young because he plays 55 games every season and between assists and goals he's there for 30 at least.
"We are in control of the situation," said Amorim. "But I feel he is really happy here because he understands what we want to do.
"He is also a supporter of Manchester United so he really feels it.
"Sometimes the frustration you see, that everybody sees and maybe says is not a good thing in a captain is a sign he wants this so bad. This is the kind of player we want."
